Kickham Barracks – 2023

Clonmel Junction Arts as part of ART23 will produce a large-scale, site-specific theatre production commemorating Kickham Barracks, the Irish Defence Forces and their role in international peace-keeping with the United Nations.

1914. 1970. 2012.

Three generations, one barracks.

Kickham Barracks has been the heartbeat of the town of Clonmel for generations. In 1914, two local teenagers head abroad to fight in World War One, with hopes of a better future for Ireland. Decades later, the barracks is busy training up soldiers to serve abroad on peacekeeping missions. In 2012, the wives and partners of the soldiers, and the people of Clonmel, are forced to fight for the survival of the barracks. 1914 Young men head to fight in World War 1 as part of the Royal Irish Regiment.

1970 In the Lebanon, Irish soldiers are deployed to the peacekeeping forces of the United Nations.

2012 12th Infantry Battalion wives and families campaign to keep Kickham Barracks operational.

From Out The Land traces the journey of over a hundred years in Clonmel's military life, Inspired by the experiences of Irish soldiers and their families.

‍Directed by Jack Reardon. The creative team includes Co-Author Áine Ryan (Kitty In The Lane), Jack Scullion (set & costume design), Eoin Lennon (lighting design), Shane Dempsey (movement), Michael Stapleton ( sound) and Kate Twohig (original composition), and Katherine Fielder (fight director)

Cast: Liz FitzGibbon, Éanna Grogan, Dylan Kennedy Ciara Laste, Julie Maguire, Cathal Ryan and Darragh Shannon. As well as a large community ensemble.
